Peoples, Races, and Civilizations
|
Originating in a different galaxy, the Ancients fled from it because of a disastrous war with another faction of their race. Some 50 million years ago they arrived in the Milky Way and began to construct the Stargate network here. In time, however, a great plague began to wipe out the Ancients, and they began to research ascension. Eventually, the Ancients either died out, or they ascended. However, there was another group that fled the Milky Way in the city-ship of Atlantis, and settled the Pegasus Galaxy. Here they continued to research ascension, but at a slower pace, and may have concentrated more on seeding Pegasus with life and creating the local Stargate networks. The war with the wraith sent these Ancients back to the Milky Way, however, where they either ascended or, once more, died out. But this time, they were given thousands of years of life, and those that remained eventually died of natural causes. The Ancients present us with a convoluted history, and one that involves the evolution of Humans, or the Human form, on at least three different occasions. Indeed, it is possible that the Humans of the Milky Way are descended from the Ancients, or were genetically created utilizing hominid and Ancient DNA. Whatever the case, there is a definite kinship between the Ancients and Humans from Earth. |

This is a group of Goa'uld that has been living in the Small Magellanic Cloud for the past 6,000 years. Originally a part of the System Lord organization, their leader, Semion, had lead an uprising campaign against the most powerful System Lord, Ra. However, the bid for power failed, and Semion lead his followers out of the Milky Way and to the SMC, where rumor had placed hundreds of unconquered worlds, ripe for the taking. Originally, the Fir Bholg were using Unas as hosts, but after a mass rebellion by the Unas Jaffa who had lost faith in their gods, they began to use Nemedians as hosts and as new Jaffa. Eventually, however, the Fir Bholg were driven to be one of three major players in the bid for power in the SMC. Today they are a very real threat, and are, ironically, the most stable of the three powers. |

Strictly speaking, Humans are indigenous only to Earth, having evolved over the last five million years. However, there are matters which complicate this greatly. Perhaps as long ago as 60 million years, in a different galaxy a species developed intelligence. Called the Alterans, they appeared quite Human, and may indeed have been the original evolution of the Human form. However, when they fled their galaxy for the Milky Way, and became known as the Ancients, they most likely brought about the evolution of Humans on Earth, perhaps through combining their DNA with the hominids that had been evolving there already. Whatever the case, Humans came to be one of the dominant intelligences in the Galaxy through their widespread occurrence, due entirely to the transplanting of people to other worlds by the Goa'uld over the last 6,000 years. Nevertheless, the origin of Humans can be traced to Earth, where they thrive today, and are slowly building up an interstellar presence. |

Located on the planet of Milesius, this is the lone government of that world. Despite its name, the world is under the thumb of a fascist regime making use of discovered Ancient technology and looted Goa'uld technology. Initially, the planet had been settled by the Ancients, but in time they socially and technologically devolved into the Nemedians, and for thousands of years lived in a peaceful agrarian society, limited to a small number of villages and towns on a single continent. However, the population was centralized under the regime of the Goa'uld, so that by the time that the Dannan drove off the oppressors, the Milesians (as they were now known) were living in a single community. It did not take long for them to learn the use of abandoned Goa'uld technology, and with it they soon secured their own planetary space. However, they soon discovered technology long ago left behind and hidden by the original Ancient settlers, and though they have not been able to learn the secrets of repairing or duplicating this technology, it (combined with the Goa'uld technology) has helped secure the Milesians' place in the SMC power hierarchy. The current regime is a fascist dictatorship, ruled by an official with the title Representative. While he is officially said to be elected, the elections are openly and obviously staged, and are always unanimous. The only time a Representative has been replaced, historically, is when he has shown signs of carelessness or weakness and has been assassinated or exiled by his opposition. It is official Republic policy to attack and kill all Fir Bholg and Dannan encountered, and to allow no Fomhor access to Milesian space. All Humans encountered are to be integrated into the Republic for their own well being, even though this typically involves massive relocation to on world reservations, or off world work camps. In recent years, the Milesians have been suffering revolts from within their military, the Republican Army, as the harsh way of life wears on the soldiers, who enjoy very few freedoms, even when compared to the average Milesians citizen. The Army is, in fact, treated in such a manner out of fear by the current Representative, Heremon, whose paranoia of a mass revolt by the Army may indeed be fostering just such an eventuality. |

This is a garden world located within the Small Magellanic Cloud, and home to the Milesian Free Republic. As a planet, it is rather ordinary, being of near Earth-size and mass, with a single large moon that possesses a thin carbon dioxide atmosphere. The planet was first settled by the Ancients, and their Nemedian descendents eventually formed an agrarian society. After the Goa'uld were driven away, however, the people, now known as Milesians, swiftly developed a technological society, and though the population tends to remain largely concentrated on a single continent, signs of heavy industrialization are common. Orbital space is also heavily populated with a wide variety of satellites. There are some minor outposts throughout the solar system, but by and large the population remains on Milesius. |

Those Partholonian Ancients that settled other planets in the Small Magellanic Cloud eventually came to be called Nemedians, after a Partholonian who made it his mission to overlook the many different worlds of Humans. For the most part, the Nemedian level of technology had fallen to that of a pre-industrial level, and many cultures had regressed to a similar level. Whether this was planned or not is impossible to say, but the fact remains that for thousands of years, the Partholonians were the sole possessors of any form of technology. With the passing of the Partholonians, and especially Nemed, the Nemedians began to lose even the knowledge of Stargate travel, deeming it unnecessary in the face of maintaining their own civilizations. This only made them fair game for the Goa'uld Fir Bholg, whose enslavement of the Humans on many worlds saw the final loss of identity of the Nemedians. |
||
|
After some 4,000 years, however, the Partholonians began to reach the end of their highly extended lifespans. And while their shorter-lived descendents, now called Nemedians, continued to live and thrive, the Partholonians eventually either died out, or they were lead to ascension by those Ancients from the Milky Way that had already achieved enlightenment. |

The SMC is home to three major powers, being an Unas nation of beings now called the Fomhor, a Goa'uld group calling themselves the Fir Bholg, and a Human race of Ancient descent called the Milesian Free Republic. The galaxy was initially colonized by a large group of Ancients shortly after their return from the Pegasus Galaxy 10,000 years ago, and has since been populated by Unas, Goa'uld, and Humans. |

Located on Magh Turahd, this is a small city of the Ancients, buried beneath the surface. Little is known about it, since it was sealed when it was abandoned, and the interior has since developed a high level of carbon dioxide, possibly due to either some interior malfunction, or a deliberate act before the city was abandoned. While some areas within have been explored, the volume of the city is simply too great to allow for a passive venting. The city is believed to be similar to Atlantis, though it is not likely capable of spaceflight. However, it may have been able to support a population of thousands, and was likely the center of research and exploration in the SMC. The potential for what lies within Tuana is great, although remote readings indicate that there are no active Zero Point Modules. Minor naqadah reactors supply minimal power for what must be background systems. There are some surface indications of Tuana, including protruding towers and three different access buildings. All of these, however, have been heavily overgrown in the 6,000 years since the city was abandoned by the fading Partholonian Ancients. |

Indigenous to the Pegasus Galaxy, the Wraith evolved after a species of parasitic insect had its DNA combined with that of exploring Ancients. Despite their Humanoid appearance, they retained many of the attributes of the original insect, including hive living and hive minds, the necessity to feed off of another being's life essence, and so forth. The Wraith are a dominating species, viewing other species, especially Humans, as little more than a source of food. Because of this, they engaged in a war with the Ancients, eventually driving them from the Pegasus Galaxy 10,000 years ago. Left to their own, the Wraith dominated Pegasus, and have since lived through a cycle of hibernation and feedings on Human worlds. |
